"To those who have received these blessings, I invite you to prepare yourselves to savor again the experience of being within the sacred premises of the holy temples of God and have the visions of life eternal open again to your hearts, minds, and souls."
—James E. Faust
We had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Preston Temple this last week. It was a choice time.
The Preston Temple is the 52nd operating temple in the world. It was dedicated in 1998.
The first missionaries arrived in 1837 in Liverpool. Heber C. Kimball along with six other brethren traveled to Preston to pursue a contact of the family of Joseph Fielding. The first converts were baptized in Preston's River Ribble. On August 6, 1837, the Preston Ward was organized. It is the longest continually functioning unit of the church in the world.
The Olympia white granite that faces the temple is from Sardenia. The temple is on a 15 acre plot. The gardens that surround the temple have won beautification awards.
