Blackness Castle

BLACKNESS castle is shaped like a boat and  was built in the 1440's by Sir George Crichton to protect the port, and , and then became crown property in 1453.  It served as a state prison before becoming the most formidable artillery fortification in Scotland in the mid 16th century. Even though well fortified it still fell to Oliver Cromwell's army in 1650. The castle served as an ammunition depot in the late 1800's before being handed into the care of Historic Scotland after the first World War. The castle is open to tourists but has also been the scene of filming of Hamlet in 1990, Doomsday in 2008.
Our favorite Sisters: Sisters Jones and Walton-in two weeks we will take our favorite Elders.

You are looking at the Bow of the ship or castle. When we were inside we tried to imagine which rooms were used for the captives. We climbed up to the top and walked the rampart and also walked to the top of the tower. It was very high.
