Bunratty Folk Park

Bunratty Folk Park is a living reconstruction of the homes and environment of Ireland over a century ago. Rural farmhouses, a village street complete with shops, gardens are recreated and furnished as they would have appeared at the time.

The Rich Farmer's Home-with stables, and a corn barn.

Mountain Farmhouse
A  farmer's house of a type found on the borders of Limerick and Kerry.

This is the DOG. HONEST.

This was the blacksmith's forge for many other craft workers and tradesmen. The hand operated bellows kept the fire blazing. He was one of the most important and respected members of the community.

Cashen Fisherman's House
This was a simple two bedroom home of a North Kerry Salmon fisherman. Much of the timber would have been salvaged from the sea. The floor is of rammed clay.

This was the tea room helper. They made 10,000 mince pies last Christmas.

Lots of pictures follow to help you see what a little Irish community might look like in the late 1800's.

The School House would have taught about 80 students.

These shops were often an important part of the local economy.

Typical village pub. The family kitchen would also be used by well known customers.

Irish linen, poplin and woollens were famous. The family rooms were upstairs.

Typical of a small town printer which produced pamphlets, handbills, notices and newspapers setting all the type by hand.

Factory produced tools and utensils began to be available in the late 19th century replacing items previously made by local craftsmen.

This was for accommodations as more and more people were traveling.

Post Office
The PO was an integral part of village life, and was to be found in all parts of the country by the end of the 19th century,.

These were the Travellers wagons. It was the main source of travel for the Irish Travellers.
